Sarah died on the fifth February, 1859 at Letchmore Heath, Aldenham in the County of Hertford. She was the wife of Thomas Rowe, Beer Seller. The cause of her death was decay of nature (not certified). The informant of the death was Mary Child of Letchmore Heath, Aldenham, who was present at the death and simply signed her mark.

Thomas Rowe
Thomas Rowe was born circa. 1793.
On the 1851 Census Thomas was an Ag. Labourer and was living in Letchmore Heath in the Parish of Aldenham; he was aged 57 years. He was living with his wife, Sarah, who was aged 54 years and who was a Laundress. David and Charles Row (presumably Rowe) were living at home and both were aged 21 years; David was an Ag. Labourer and Charles was a Gardener. The whole family were born in Aldenham.
On the 1861 Census, Thomas Rowe was aged 67 years and was a Retailer of Beer. He was living in the Beer Shop, Letchmore Heath with a lodger (sister?) called Ann Rowe who was unmarried and aged 69 years; they had both been born in Aldenham, Hertfordshire.
He died on the 24th. September, 1862 at Letchmore Heath, Aldenham in the County of Hertford. He was a beer seller. The cause of death was softening of the brain. The person present at the death was his daughter, Ann Larkin, who simply signed with her mark; she lived in Letchmore Heath, Aldenham.

Thomas Rowe (brother of David?)
Thomas Rowe was married at the Parish Church of Aldenham in the County of Hertford on December 16th, 1848.
He married Ann Kimpton. They were both of full age. Thomas was a gardener. Thomas was living at High Cross and Ann at Aldenham. Thomas' father was also called Thomas and was a labourer. Ann's father was called William Kimpton and was a labourer.
The witnesses were William Baff? and Jane Kimpton.

Louisa Rowe (Mott)
Louisa was born in Cobham, in the County of Surrey. She was baptised in the Parish of Cobham on the 6th. January, 1833. Her parents were Thomas and Ann Mott; their residence was Downside and Thomas was a labourer.
On the 1911 Census she was aged 77 years and a Widow. She was living in 31 Russell Terrace, Lincoln Road, Enfield.
Her daughter, Isabella, was the only 'child' living at home on the 1911 Census; she was 36, single, her occupation was a Domestic Help and she was born in North Finchley.
On the night of the census (1911), a boarder and visitor also stayed. There were 5 rooms (1911 census) incl. kitchen.

David was a porter at the time of his marriage. Their residence at the time was Walton Street. David's father was called Thomas Rowe and he was a labourer. Louisa's father was called Thomas and he was a gardener. Their witnesses at the marriage were Jane Rowe and Eliza Mott.
On the 1881 census David and Louisa were living in Holly Walk, Enfield. David was a gardener and Louisa was a laundress. David was 57 years old and Louisa 49 years old. Rowe family of Woodbine Grove, Enfield
I contacted Enfield Council, to find out when the Rowe family were living at 6 Woodbine Grove, Enfield.
Graham Dalling, a local history officer, very kindly informed me of the following:
'The address is given variously as Elm Cottage, Woodbine Grove or no. 6, Woodbine Grove. According to Kelly's Enfield Directories (1928/9/30) the householder was Alfred Henry Rowe. Electoral registers for the same years list Alfred Henry Rowe and Alice Rowe at this address.
Woodbine Grove is part of the Birkbeck Estate, developed from the late eighteen-seventies onwards. The inhabitants were mainly resepectable working class.'
Apparently, according to a relative, there used to be a pear tree in the garden with a seat under it.
